Budget for street trees criticised

Failure to budget for street trees replacement criticised by Lib Dems at Council meeting.

At the Budget-setting meeting of the Kent County Council, Dan Daley, Lib Dem Spokesperson for Highways, Environment and Waste, challenged the Cabinet Member for Highways, Environment and Waste to honour his pledge last year to increase spending on Highway trees.

Dan said" It is an established fact that trees are the most efficient means of reducing urban pollution and cleaning particulates from the air".

In trying to obtain information on the KCC attitude to this green solution to a growing problem in inner urban areas, Dan has asked that there now be better allocations for tree planting which will be specifically identified in Budget headings.

Dan stated, "If KCC is serious in seeking to reduce carbon pollution, then is will invest significant sums for the provision and maintenance of Highways trees".
